Find a Broker: Interview. Interview. Interview. Find the one you connect with. You will have to trust your broker to make very important decisions concerning the purchase or sale. I view a good broker as an insurance policy. If a deal is headed south, a good broker can help keep it alive. On the other hand, an inexperienced broker can frustrate the parties, not get the right selling price and screw up a board package. Beware your spouse’s niece who just got into the business- let her cut her teeth on the next deal. Also beware the broker who the doorman recommends- he or she probably paid the doorman off. Watch out for the “building broker”- they may have other apartments to sell in your building and you don’t know where you stand in the pecking order.
